Anything that stretches never goes back to its original state

Anything that stretches never goes back to its original state

Sounds profound right? Can I own that one? 😁

On a serious note, let’s start with the physical side of things. It’s hard enough fitting regular workouts into the family/work week. Stretching before and after a fitness session is surplus to requirements, right? Wrong!

Personal intuition asserts that the stretch IS the workout, the game changer and essential in maintaining a flexible, agile and supple physique. Not to mention, improved recovery time after physical exertion, reducing the likelihood of injury due to stiff & tight muscles.

From a lifestyle, knowledge and skills perspective, stretching capabilities and broadening horizons is the difficult yet mandatory choice too. Only problem is the human brain isn’t designed to stretch, it’s configured to survive, be safe and conserve energy.

Comfort zones should mostly be temporary, exploring their boundaries builds personal strength and opens us up to new opportunities.

So what’s the trade off? By incrementally stretching the character, physique and skills we never truly go back to what we were, we evolve into the upgraded version, the newer model.

Some practical suggestions on Stretching:

  • Decide what areas you will stretch in and set some SMART goals.
  • Seek out individuals, groups, books and companies that promote and encourage accountability.
  • Feel the pain (fear) and do it anyway.

Wishing you a great Sunday.
