How Do You “Figure Out” Yours?

How Do You “Figure Out” Yours?

In an age where life hacks dominate and we’re all chasing the “7 habits,” “10 traits,” and “4-hour” mastery programs, I keep coming back to a simple but powerful phrase I first heard in a Kobe Bryant interview:

👉 Figure it out.

Kobe talked about learning from the legends who came before him, but he didn’t just copy. He practiced relentlessly, tested what worked, dropped what didn’t, and discovered his own way to excel. That’s the heart of the Mamba Mentality 🐍.

Recently, on Jay Shetty’s podcast On Purpose, Novak Djokovic said something strikingly similar: “I’ve developed my own formula, that changes… I know what works and what doesn’t.”

He even mentioned a personal conversation with Kobe about learning from past mistakes. That’s when it clicked for me, whether it’s tennis, basketball, or everyday health, the real key is in figuring it out for yourself.

As a middle-aged man embracing health, fitness, and wellness, here’s what I’ve figured out so far:

Fitness Challenges – Setting personal challenges keeps me motivated and pushing forward.

Birds of a Feather – An accountability buddy or group keeps me honest and consistent.

Hydration – Hitting 2L+ daily makes a noticeable difference in energy and recovery.

Tracking Devices – Smartwatches and scales don’t lie. They help me spot trends early.

Fresh & Green 🥗 – Clean eating matters. Adding protein (like tuna 🐟 to a salad) keeps me fueled longer.

Truth be told there’s also a list of what doesn’t work. I’ll save that for another post. 😉

Here’s my takeaway:

We can (and should) learn from the greats, but context is everything. Ultimately, no one can hand you your formula, you’ve got to figure it out.

So I’ll leave you with this:

👉 When it comes to your health and wellness, what have you figured out that no book, podcast, or guru could have taught you?
