Last weekend, I participated in an amateur boxing match, preceded by 8 weeks of training and fundraising.
It was an experience I will never forget and one I’m truly proud of because it’s not something I would have imagined at this stage of my life and career.
Yes, there were some sparring sessions where a jab was thrown at me just a bit harder than instructed. It required discipline to not only attend more than the minimum number of sessions but to get immersed in the process overall .
More than anything, it was a journey of purpose, grit and community (in and out of the boxing gym). Collectively, we raised £945.10 (with Gift Aid) for causes that support young people and those who often fall through the cracks and are labelled “hard to reach.”
To everyone who donated, sent a message or simply asked how training was going: thank you. Your support fuelled every round inside the ring during that event and each day leading up to it.
Many of us are looking for ways to stay lean, stay healthy, and stay rooted in ourselves, our purpose, and our communities. For me, this wasn’t just a fitness challenge, it was an opportunity to break the mould and do something where I had to give all or nothing.
There were some donations that stood out as they trickled in anonymously. No name. Perhaps a message. Just quiet generosity.
That stayed with me.
The anonymous donor reminds us that kindness doesn’t always need recognition. It’s an act of service, given silently and they waive the universal pleasure of receiving a personal thank you.
In Notes from a Friend, Tony Robbins tells the story of an anonymous stranger’s gift during a hard time in his childhood. Something small, but filled with meaning. It changed how he saw the world. That story came back to me as I thought about those anonymous donors.
It’s possible they know me.
Or perhaps not at all.
Maybe they simply believed in the causes.
Either way, their act reminded me of something many of us need to hear:
You don’t need to be seen to make an impact.
To the anonymous donor, thank you. You’ve shown up for more than just me. You’ve shown up for hope, for service and for community.
For the rest of us? Let’s keep showing up too. Not just in the gym 🏋️, on the pitch ⚽️, course 🏌️or court ⛹🏾but in life. With strength, humility and purpose.
